Accidental Death Benefit Rider

An Accidental Death Benefit (ADB) Rider provides a specified additional amount of money above the face amount (death benefit ) of a life insurance policy that is payable only if the insured dies as the result of an accident. The amount of ADB available at the time of application is usually equal to the lesser of the face amount of the policy or a fixed dollar amount such as $150,000 or $250,000. For example, if you purchase a life insurance policy with a $100,000 death benefit, you might also elect to include an accidental death rider for an additional $100,000 benefit. If you die as result of an accident, your beneficiary would receive $200,000, less any outstanding policy loans. If you die from a cause other than an accident, your beneficiary would receive $100,000, less any outstanding policy loans.
