Vehicle Identification Number

This is a unique number given to a vehicle by the manufacturer that can help the insurance company double-check certain characteristics of your vehicle, which affect the premium. It is found on the driver’s side of dashboard, in front of the windshield. The first eight of the 17 numbers in the VIN show car type (such as a 2-door with a 4-cyclinder engine). The rest of the numbers help distinguish one vehicle from another, which is especially helpful should the car be stolen.
