Ex Gratia

Ex gratia is Latin for “from favor.” An ex gratia payment may be made by an insurance company to an insured even if the company feels they are not really required to do so. In some cases, the company may feel there has been a mistake or a misunderstanding, and they may pay a claim although they do not appear liable.
